Changes to weekend opening times at recycling centres

Bath & North East Somerset Council is changing the weekend opening times at all three recycling centres.

Mondays to Fridays won't be affected and all centres at Midsomer Norton, Keynsham and Bath, will be open as usual from 8am - 4.15pm. At weekends however, the centres will, from March 31 2012, open at 9am instead of 8am.

The changes have been made following a careful study of when the centres are most used by residents. Our Recycling Centres are very popular with local people and because of the Council's responsible financial management we do not have to significantly reduce opening hours to balance our budgets.

From 31 March the opening hours will be:
Monday-Friday 8am-4.15pm
Saturday and Sunday 9am-3.45pm
Bank holidays 8am - 3.45pm

From November the winter opening hours will change to Sunday 1pm closing. All other hours will remain the same.

For Christmas and New Year and bank holiday opening times please check our website or contact Council Connect.

We can recycle over 35 types of materials at our Recycling Centres and we are currently recycling an average of 74% of the items from these centres. Please separate your materials into the right container when you visit to help us recycle even more. For a full list of what you can recycle please visit our website or contact Council Connect.

Farrington Gurney is a small rural village that is a nice place to live. Situated in the north east of Somerset, in between Bristol, Bath and Wells. There is a parish church nestling in the rolling countryside along with the popular village memorial hall which is the social heart of the village.

As well as being a community of dwellings, we have a thriving business community employing many people. The Parish Council meets every month and always welcomes members of the public to attend and voice their opinions on the running of local affairs. To see the meeting dates and check the minutes and agendas go to the Parish Council page on this website.

We hope you enjoy this website and we look forward to your input on any events and any matters that concern Farrington Gurney.

Royal Jubilee Celebrations Farrington Gurney Monday 4th June 2012

Following on from the initial Village meeting last month the following arrangement are emerging and/or are in hand. During the day time events and activities are planned for the playing field and the Hall.

The afternoon will see a party organised for children in the Memorial Hall, with food and entertainment, this is being led and organised by Lorraine Malkin assisted by others from within the village.

At the party a memento of the Jubilee will be presented to children who attend either of the Village pre-school groups or Farrington Gurney Primary School.

On the playing field, bouncy castles have been booked plus a hog roast and a barbeque; there will also be a cider shack that will be run by the Farrington Football Club. An item will be placed in The Gurney Journal and other local papers inviting stall holders and car booters who wish to attend so that there will be stalls similar to the village day plus a car boot sale element but turn-out will depend on the level of response.

Residents of the village will also be invited to open their gardens for public viewing and those who are so prepared are asked to contact Mike Hedges on his e-mail - m.hedges764@btinternet.com
and if there is a favourable approach a garden trail will be organised.

For teenagers, a sound tent is being organised by Clint Dando on the playing field so that they can enjoy their own particular tastes in music and Clint continues his role in the evening when two bands are booked for the Memorial Hall.

It is also hoped but yet to be confirmed to have a skiffle group providing outside entertainment during the afternoon. Cream teas are planned to be available at The Manor and there is a possibility that a brass band ensemble may accompany the event but this is still under arrangement.

The W.I., the School and the Church have indicated that they will contribute on the day and this is still under discussion.

So in closing, things are starting to fall into place and a reminder if any one wishes to open their garden, be involved in having a stall or doing a car boot, contact Mike Hedges as above.
